idolatry

Thursday, May 22nd, 2008

With no Goliath in sight, the saga for the American Idol this year ends with a David taking the crown. Certainly this has been quite a year I followed, religiously tuning into Star World on Wednesdays and Thursdays, from the elimination rounds to the finals and through all Paula Abdul’s witticisms from outer space and adjacent areas.

I say it’s been quite a fun ride – but not without the people I had gone ga-ga over Idol with. =) as they say, what a crowd we have tonight. Yes, what a crowd – this includes officemates (whose cheers and side comments made the AI experience a lot more enjoyable), my boss (who lent the section a proper-looking TV for the occasion haha) and my 11-year-old brother (who sends me his analyses of Idol via SMS. Ah, how technology could be so sweeeeeeeeeet).

start february right with winterson

Friday, February 1st, 2008

parang nananadya lang hahaha - someone just posted the LONGEST quote-post quoting practically everything heartripping in jeanette winterson’s written on the body.

naaalala ko to e (kung pwede ko lang sulatan yung libro, sinulatan ko malamang):

I don’t lack self-confidence but I’m not beautiful, that is a word reserved for very few people, people such as Louise herself.  I told her this.

‘You can’t see what I can see.’ She stroked my face.

‘You are a pool of clear water where the light plays.’

oha. *insert moment of kilig here*

OST for this moment: jose gonzalez - heartbeats

(cryptic l word s5e04 spoiler after)

a.k.a. another one of those general observation posts. or alternatively, learning from south america, india and the continental drift theory.

“Things fall apart… they fall apart so hard. You can never put them back the way they were. You know, it takes time. You can’t just have coffee and expect–there’s so much to work through. Trust has to be built again, on both sides. You have to learn if we’re even the same people we were–if we can fit in each other’s lives.

It’s a long and important process and… Can we just skip it? Can you just be kissing me now?”

-Tara Maclay, btvs 6.18, “Entropy”

the other day, a good old friend of mine chatted me up over yahoo. turns out he’d just graduated from college, and was about to leave town to work somewhere else. the last i heard he was this amazing guy who was nursing an amazingly very broken heart over a girl who couldn’t commit. the last i heard, he’d ditched her completely — refused to talk, moved towns even, just to be away from her. at the time, i was stuck in a similar situation and all i could say then was that i so envied him for his will power.

so yeah, he caught up with me the other day, and guess what? before leaving town, he’d hooked up with her again, after more or less a couple of years without contact, and now he’d settled for an undefined sort of relationship with her!

undefined? i‘d asked.

and he’d just said, you remember what Tara said? we’re not the people we were.

so it really begs the question. if people change over time anyway… does that mean it’s okay to eventually pick up where you left off?

alternatively, reasons why we never ‘gay’ with friends.

“The thing about plans is they don’t take into account the unexpected, so when we’re thrown a curve ball, whether its in the O.R. or in life, we have to improvise. Of course, some of us are better at it than others. Some of us just have to move on to plan B, and make the best of it. And sometimes what we want is exactly what we need. But sometimes, sometimes what we need is a new plan.”

art of controlled abandon

Saturday, March 10th, 2007

okay, still with the 300 hangover, really. header choice for march was pretty much a toss-up between the usual suspects — addison/alex, for one, and rachel shelley (because she really *really* deserves a month up there somehow), and well keira knightley BUT man, if you’ve watched 300?

you’d know lena headey would *so* win.

so anyway. quote is from paulo coehlo’s eleven minutes, verbatim. and of course, lovely lena header is from here. because she is gorgeous and well.

this is what days off are all about. (and of course, japanese lunches and a terrific conversation over tea with someone you haven’t met before.)

… trumping Lost and 24!

omfg. to think i just watched ep 11 of season 3 (six days, part 1) this morning. (and witnessed the best notkiss EVER.) christ. okay stopping now before i spoil you.

but realy, the real reason for this breaking post?

is sara ramirez’* redhotgown. and kate walsh’ general hotness of course. and the two of them standing close together behind shonda. (who i think just gave birth to my new fave phrase, ang shonda-shonda mo ngayon!)

okay. that was beyond incoherent. maybe i should audition for “Kaibigan**.”

Notes:
* sara plays dr. callie torres on grey’s anatomy
** will elaborate more on this later.

breaking news of the captain barbell kind

Thursday, January 11th, 2007

now that captain barbell is set to end its run as a primetime series tomorrow night, it’s about time i come out of the closet — yes. captain barbell is my illegal substance of choice.

and whether you like it or not, i’m going to do an episode commentary.

(haha cut for spoilers!)

new layout yay!

Saturday, January 6th, 2007

while i’m still in the process of figuring out how to put together a wordpress theme altogether, i’ll be using fabulous themes other people had cooked up, and voila! this. =)

of course, with a bit of tweaking so as to display an addison/derek header *hugs close to chest* yes. oh grey’s anatomy how i miss you, where has the rest of season 3 gone? *scratches head* seriously? anyway, this entry really is just a dork-reminder-meta post of sorts, just so i could mark the day i actually put up this layout and other meta:

header image from grey’s anatomy season 2 ender, featuring kate walsh and patrick dempsey as addison and derek shepherd. text from everything but the girl’s “cross my heart”.

now let me go back to my lunch.

2006 in movies
of course, we all know that the movies that changed my life this year were brokeback mountain (feb), gia (march) and imagine me & you (august). but that doesn’t mean there aren’t any other movies worth mentioning.

i also loved: rent (the OST is loooove), the devil wears prada (meryl streep is loooove) and
happy feet (penguins are looooooooooooooove!)

other movies i bothered with: mission impossible 3, pirates of the carribean 2 and superman.

2006 in screen-related addictions
my dvd life was mostly lorded over by episodes of: the l word (april) and grey’s anatomy (october)

on tv, i remember watching: rockstar:supernova and philippine idol. captain barbell! :)

(and even more randomicity. is that even a word?)
